Term-by-Term Focus

Introduction to Genre

From graphic novels to fantasy writing, students explore how stories are structured and how genre shapes meaning. We use Nimona and related texts to teach visual language, characterisation, and narrative writing.

Analyzing Texts Across Forms

Students learn to compare poetry, prose, and film—studying works like The Hunger Games, Jurassic Park, and poems by Maya Angelou. They develop structured responses and start to build literary fluency.

Mastering Persuasion

Advertising, speeches, and propaganda are the focus. Students break down persuasive techniques, build branding strategies, and write critical reviews—learning to think independently and write persuasively.

Introduction to Shakespeare

We bring Shakespeare to life with lessons on his language, theatre, and key genres. Students explore sonnets, tragedies, and soliloquies—ending the year with strong analytical writing about dramatic texts.

Delivery Format

  • Analytical Writing: Using evidence and structure to respond to texts.
  • Genre Awareness: Understanding how form shapes meaning.
