Common Module – Reading to Write (Oct–Dec)

    • Students begin their HSC English journey by exploring the relationship between reading and writing. They study diverse model texts and use these as springboards to develop their own voice and writing craft.

      • Studying mentor texts to explore style, voice, and structure

      • Developing skills in discursive, imaginative, and persuasive writing

      • Exploring how context, purpose, and audience influence meaning

      • Building strong analytical and reflective paragraph structures

      Outcome:
      Students will strengthen their writing style, voice, and structure, becoming confident in crafting original and purposeful responses across multiple modes.

Module A – Contemporary Possibilities (Feb–Apr)

  • This term explores how composers use digital, multimodal, and hybrid texts to present ideas in innovative ways. Students examine how form and technology shape meaning and audience engagement.

    • Studying multimodal and digital texts (e.g., short films, podcasts, visual essays)

    • Understanding the impact of form, media, and digital conventions

    • Creating multimodal compositions in response to texts studied

    • Analyzing the contemporary relevance and stylistic choices of creators

    Outcome:
    Students will gain the ability to critically analyse and compose texts across traditional and emerging platforms, broadening their creative and analytical capabilities.

Module B – Close Study of Literature (Apr–Jun)

In Term 3, students engage in a deep and sustained analysis of a single prescribed text. They explore how language is used to create meaning and develop refined, text-based arguments.

  • Conducting close reading and analysis of a prescribed literary text

  • Exploring literary devices, themes, and authorial intent

  • Structuring evidence-based analytical essays

  • Building Band 6 essay frameworks and sustained arguments

Outcome:
Students will develop detailed knowledge of their text and learn to craft sophisticated, textually grounded analytical essays.

Exam Practice, Essay Drills & Transition to HSC English (Jul–Sept)

In the final term of Year 11, students consolidate their learning and prepare for senior assessments. This term focuses on timed writing, mock exams, and strategic review while previewing HSC Modules.

  • Engaging in exam-style writing under timed conditions

  • Completing mock assessments with individualised feedback

  • Refining exam strategies, time management, and revision techniques

  • Previewing key concepts for HSC English Advanced (Year 12)

Outcome:
