Year 12 Chemistry Tutoring in NSW & Online

Master the calculations and conceptual depth required for medicine, pharmacy, and Band 6 success

Year 12 Chemistry stands between students and their healthcare dreams. With medical schools requiring Band 6 performance and trials determining final rankings, every mark becomes crucial. Topics like equilibrium calculations, acid-base chemistry, and organic synthesis demand both mathematical precision and deep conceptual understanding. Our program rapidly develops the calculation mastery and analytical thinking that transforms Chemistry from an ATAR burden into your competitive edge.

Term-by-Term Outline

Module 5 – Equilibrium and Acid Reactions (Oct–Dec)

This term introduces students to the principles of chemical equilibrium and the nature of acids and bases, providing a strong conceptual base for all Year 12 Chemistry topics.

  • Equilibrium concepts: dynamic equilibrium, Le Chatelier’s Principle

  • Solubility rules and precipitate reactions

  • Strong vs weak acids and acid dissociation

  • Bronsted-Lowry theory and reaction reversibility

  • Topic test to assess and reinforce early understanding

Outcome:
Students will understand the behaviour of chemical systems at equilibrium and confidently classify and analyse acid reactions.

Module 6 – Acid/Base Reactions (Feb–Apr)

This module expands on acid-base theory, applying it to real-world scenarios and quantitative analysis through titrations and pH calculations.

  • pH scale, Ka/Kb, and calculations involving strong and weak acids/bases

  • Buffer systems and their biological and industrial relevance

  • Titrations: practical techniques, indicators, and calculations

  • Neutralisation reactions and real-world applications

  • Progress tracking through quizzes and calculation workshops

Outcome:
Students will gain strong analytical and practical skills in acid-base chemistry, including quantitative problem-solving and lab-based assessment techniques.

Module 7 – Organic Chemistry (Apr–Jun)

In this term, students explore organic compounds, focusing on structure, functional groups, and reactions. Emphasis is placed on synthesis and real-world chemical applications.

  • Naming and structure of alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, esters, and polymers

  • Functional group transformations and reaction pathways

  • Understanding addition, substitution, condensation, and oxidation reactions

  • Practice with synthesis questions and mechanism-based problems

  • Use of revision guides and modelled high-scoring responses

Outcome:
Students will be able to name, predict, and manipulate organic compounds, preparing for both short-response and extended-answer HSC questions.

Module 8 – Applying Chemical Ideas (Jul–Sep)

The final term develops students’ analytical and problem-solving skills in applied chemistry. This includes a focus on spectroscopy, gravimetric analysis, and preparation for the HSC exam.

  • Spectroscopic techniques: IR, NMR, and mass spectrometry

  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis: identifying ions, gravimetric analysis

  • Stoichiometry and chemical monitoring in industrial contexts

  • Mock exams, timed drills, and HSC exam strategy

  • Breakdown of high-scoring responses for exam mastery

Outcome:
Students will be equipped with both the conceptual knowledge and analytical skills to interpret data, solve complex problems, and succeed in the HSC Chemistry exam.
