Term-by-Term Outline

Foundations and Fluency (Oct–Dec)

This term focuses on building a solid foundation. We establish essential skills and habits to help students succeed in the OC format.

1hr Thinking Skills: Introduction to logic puzzles, pattern recognition, and basic deduction.
2hr Mathematical Reasoning: Core operations, measurement, perimeter/area, and fractions.
1hr Reading: Fictional texts, identifying key ideas, and literal comprehension.

Outcome: By the end of Term 1, students will have a clear understanding of the OC format and be confident in their approach.

Acceleration and Strategy (Jan–Mar)

In Term 2, we increase the difficulty, enhance their approach, and focus on refining their decision-making abilities.

1hr Thinking Skills: Advanced logic, syllogisms, multi-step puzzles, and error identification.
2hr Mathematical Reasoning: Puzzles, number patterns, data sets, and an introduction to probability.

1hr Reading: Non-fiction and poetry, tone analysis, purpose, and audience identification.

Outcome: By the end of Term 2, students will be moving more quickly, thinking critically, and answering more effectively.

Simulation and Refinement (Apr–Jun)

Pressure begins to build as we move into more intense exam-mode drills. Each mistake is analyzed, and every gap is closed.

1hr Thinking Skills: High-speed drills, trick logic, and mixed-format questions.
2hr Mathematical Reasoning: Worded problems, compound operations, and graph/data interpretation.
1hr Reading: Advanced comprehension, multi-text analysis, and question strategies.

Outcome: By the end of Term 3, students will have undergone rigorous testing and refining, ensuring they are fully prepared for the challenge ahead.

Final Prep & Mock Exams (Jul–Sep)

In the final term, we simulate the OC exam experience each week—emulating the format, pressure, and timing.

1hr Thinking Skills: Mixed mock sections under time pressure.
2hr Mathematical Reasoning: Full OC-style math trials.
1hr Reading: Targeted mock exams, followed by comprehensive debriefing.

Outcome: By the end of Term 4, students will have mastered the OC test format and be fully prepared to excel.
